Hi, I'm Annie.

 

I'm currently taking a break from semi-recovery to experiment with fasting. I've gained 10 lbs from overexercise, reactive eating and birth control and am now BMI 23.5. I want to go back to maintaining 125 lbs in peace.

 

I'm going on a trip in 3 days and will do IF until then. In about 10 days, I'm starting a 14 day fast with a friend that's a seasoned faster and has no clue about my ED.

 

These past few days, I've experimented with a 2 hour eating window and 1000 cal intake. I low-key hope my long fast doesn't get me to my gw so I can go back to that as I'm enjoying it. I don't want to maintain with that level of IF though because I would have to eat too much in one sitting.

 

I go to yoga class every morning Mon-Fri and get at least 10k steps everyday.

The Plan

 

1000 cals means anything from 1000-1099

I can have 1 cup of coffee but not 2 days in a row. Caffeine should come from tea. Can have diet coke on non-coffee days.

Plan can be updated when life gets in the way.

Week 1: May 9 to May 15

Monday: fast 19 hours, eat 12:30-2:30 (1000 cals)

Tuesday: fast 24 hours, eat 2:30-4:30 (1000 cals)

Wednesday: fast 22 hours, eat 2:15-4:00 (1000 cals)

Thursday: fast 24 hours, eat 4:00-6:00 (1000 cals)

Friday: fast 22 hours, eat 3:00-5:00 (1000 cals)

Saturday: Visit mom. Break before arriving at 11:30 am (1000-1600 cals)

Sunday: 1600-tdee

 

Week 2: May 16 to May 22

Monday: 1600-tdee

Tuesday: 1600-tdee

Wednesday: 1600-tdee

Thursday: tdee

Friday: hike all day, 250-500 deficit

Saturday: hike all day, 250-500 deficit

1000 cal intake must include

 

1 piece of fruit

1 generous serving of veggies

1 serving of legumes

50 g protein

25 g fat

 

More veggies and legumes are always better but I do still want to honor my cravings.

Currently on hour 17 of my current fast and the weight is slowly going down but I'm still retaining a decent amount of water. I might brave an actual weigh in tomorrow. Ideally, I would wait until my period is over but it'll only start this weekend and I'm leaving Saturday morning.

 

I'm surprised how regular I've been with this eating method. I'm also sleeping better than I have in weeks. The only thing is that I chose the worst eating window for productivity. I'm usually at my best in the afternoon but once I get back from the gym the brain fog sets in and after eating, the fatigue. I'm doing my yoga class at night instead today to see how that affects things but if I do this longterm, I should probably move eating to right after the gym. Although that would probably affect my sleep and workout in a negative way, so maybe 12-2 pm would be good. I had an appointment this morning that was cancelled, so I'll try and get some work done in about an hour. I'm lucky that I don't have too much to do atm.

 

​Also, I make it a point to not calculate my deficits because that triggers overexercise for me. If it's that close to 1000 I know by heart but it's always my downfall when trying to high restrict.

Updated plan

 

The plan for today was fast 22 hours and eat 2:00-4:00 (1000 cals). Instead, I had a study date at 12 and a coffee with cream beforehand to give me energy and get rid of the brain fog. It worked and I don't count it as breaking my fast because I walked 30 mins before and 30 mins after and I didn't actually eat. Now, I'm extending my fast to at least 24 hours because I feel like I can go longer. So I won't eat before 4:00-6:00 pm.

 

I am also flirting with the idea of not eating at all tomorrow. I have a meeting at 10:30 which should be fine if I eat this late today and I won't exercise beforehand. Other than that, I just have to pack for my trip and clean my apartment. I will start both tasks today so I'll be free to spend most of tomorrow in bed. I'll also need to sleep early because my train leaves at 4:45 Saturday morning. 

 

So, if I don't eat tomorrow, I could fast for 36 hours easily. I still think I should break before seeing my mom but I could also do that at 12 pm on Saturday making it a 42 hour fast. I will see how I actually feel tomorrow but this is very tempting.

I actually started eating at 4:02. I wasn’t about to stare at my food for 3 minutes once I was done cooking.

If I do eat tomorrow I'm not too bothered about going until 2 pm or 4 pm and if I don't eat, I want to make it until at least 10 am Saturday. I'd prefer 12 pm though.

Weight is from this morning, Friday the 13th. Cals are from yesterday, May 12th. In my head, it makes sense to do it like that.

 

I think, I prefer my 2:00-4:00 eating window. 6 pm is too close to bedtime. So if I do eat today, it'll be 2:00-4:00 or maybe 3:00-5:00. I do like even numbers though.

I decided to break my fast at 3 pm after all and I feel horrible about it. Feels like i binged even though I had my safe 1000 cals. I decided to keep it keto style though and had under 50g carbs and more fat. That meant I could make it true omad and have my food in one sitting since everything was so high density. No fruit today but I've hit all other targets and finished my spicy hummus and froze the leftover soy milk. Now my fridge is nice and empty for the trip.

I’ll break tomorrow around 11:30 with a keto meal with 8g carbs (broccoli and protein) and then it’s back to normal eating. I don’t think keto is smart or sustainable longterm but I wanted to extend the metabolism switch I seem to have going on. 44 carbs probably kicked me out of ketosis but I should be back in it by tomorrow. Ugh, I still felt so gross and disgusting for eating though. Such a failure. I seriously felt like I’d binged but I'm getting over it now.

Alarm went off at 4:15 and I could’ve used a few more hours of sleep. I got cravings at around seven but luckily, a black coffee fixed it. I might allow 2 coffees today since I got so little sleep. I have to stick to the rule to not drink coffee two days in a row though so I won’t get super dependent again.

I took electrolytes after waking up but I can tell I’m low in sodium because I hydrated a little too much. I don’t know how to fix it while traveling except maybe diet coke? I don’t think I can get salt packets. Or should I just ride it out until I can eat? I’d love to get some broth and not eat at all but that’s not an option.

If anyone reads this I’d love some tips.

I would have loved to sleep in and weigh myself. I'm also going to miss my current schedule so much. It's so comforting and I can't wait to get back to it. Watch me make a list of 1000ish cal omad foods for the next three weeks. I also feel like eating very pre-planned food in such a short window helps me get my food shopping under control. I've gotten a lot better ever since my recovery attempt but what's the point in hoarding food when you don't get around to eating it?

 

The only downside of last week going so well is that I'm no longer looking forward to the long fast as much. I'm sure that'll change once the upcoming days of unknown intake have passed though and I trust that the fast is actually happening. I never trust that things will work out so I'll only believe it when I'm at my friends place.

Oops I failed. 332 cals in but my electrolytes are nice and steady again. Looks like regular meals start a day early. I’m pretty sure I’ll still have something for lunch before arriving at moms but will try to avoid afternoon snacks. We’re having dinner at a hotel the next few days and I’m hoping it’ll be a nice, healthy 500 cal vegan meal. Doubtful though, isn’t it?

Today didn’t go to plan at all but as I said, I’m allowed to adapt if life gets in the way. Turns out my mom wanted to go on several walks in one day and I ended up with a 2330 tdee.

For lunch I had a protein bar (180), a piece of chocolate (100) and a cold brew latte(50). A little juice and an apple in the afternoon when my blood sugar dropped and I started shaking (125).

Dinner was a four course menu which I hadn’t anticipated at all. First was a mixed salad with vinaigrette (150?), then a small non fatty tomato soup (100?). You could order half servings of the main course (vegetable curry with rice) which I did (450?). But then the dessert was this super rich and delicious chocolate mousse and ice cream. All vegan. I ate about half of the mousse and a third of the small scoop of ice cream (350?) which prompted my mother to do the same. She’s so freaking triggering lol. She’s pretty overweight and keeps analyzing every bite I take since I’m her special skinny girl. She tends to restrict when I’m there.

Long story short, I’m estimating dinner at 1050 cals making my daily total 1835 with a 495 deficit for the day. None of it to plan but a good deficit nonetheless. I’m marking today as a good day and I don’t think I’ll gain from it. Having semi-recovered these past few months helps soo much!!

Tomorrow will be breakfast buffet (very safe), unknown lunch and then the same hotel dinner. I won’t have dessert tomorrow so if lunch works out, I might make it to 1600 after all. If not, I’m fine as long as I’m below tdee.
